This policy explains what personal information Companyvisor ("we", "us") collects when you visit companyvisor.com or use our dashboard, API and webhooks (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions go to info@companyvisor.com.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Access requests. When you click "Request access" you are taken to a Google Form. The details you enter there, such as your name, work email, company and the states you are interested in, are collected by Google on our behalf and shared with us.
- Emails. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever your message contains.
- Account information. If you get access to the Service, we keep your name, email, company, team members, saved alerts, watchlists and settings.
- Billing information. Payments on paid plans are handled by our payment processor. We receive your billing contact and a record of payments, not your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used. It sets cookies and records information such as the pages you view, the buttons you click (including "Request access"), your browser and device type, the referring site and an approximate location derived from your IP address.
- Service logs. When you use the dashboard or API we log requests, IP addresses, API key usage and webhook deliveries to operate, secure and bill the Service.
Public records in our data
The Service contains business formation and insolvency data drawn from official US public records, such as Secretary of State filings and bankruptcy court records. These records can include the names and business addresses of officers, organizers and registered agents. We process this information because it is public and to provide business intelligence about companies, not to build profiles of individuals.
2. How we use information
- To review access requests, reply to messages and provide the Service.
- To send alerts, digests and service notices you have set up or that concern your account.
- To measure and improve the website and the Service.
- To bill, prevent abuse, secure our systems and meet legal obligations.
We may occasionally email you about product updates. You can opt out at any time using the link in the email or by writing to us.
3. Cookies and analytics
Google Analytics uses first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell visits apart. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. You can block cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. The website works without these cookies.
4. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers who help us run the business, such as hosting, Google (Analytics and Forms), email and payment processing, under contracts that limit their use of it.
- When required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
- As part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.
5. Retention
We keep account information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards for billing, legal and backup purposes. Access requests from people who do not become customers are deleted within 24 months. Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics retention settings.
6. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and signed webhooks to protect data. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop sending you marketing emails. Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws, you may have additional rights, such as knowing what categories of information we collect and not being discriminated against for exercising your rights. To make a request, email info@companyvisor.com. We may need to verify your identity first.
If a public record in our data concerns you and you believe it is inaccurate, tell us. We will check it against the official source and correct our copy if it differs.
8. Children
The Service is for businesses and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal information.
9. Where data is processed
We are based in the United States and process data there. If you access the Service from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the effective date above. If a change is significant, we will also notify account holders by email before it takes effect.
